Guelleh

President Isma’il Guelleh of Djibouti has urged Nigerian businessmen to use the country’s ports as transit points when shipping goods from Asia.
Guelleh said this in Djibouti on Monday when Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the African Union and Ambassador to Ethiopia and Djibouti, Mr. Bulus Lolo, presented his letter of credence to him, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.
He said goods destined to Nigeria from Asia take a long time before they arrive because of the long distance; hence, the need to use Djibouti ports as transit points.
“We have adequate warehouses and storage facilities in Djibouti. Goods from Asia to Nigeria can have a stop-over in Djibouti, before they are transported further through cargo to Nigeria to ease the long period of transporting them by sea,” the president said.
Guelleh said his country was expanding its second port to accommodate the growing traffic.
He said Djibouti was willing to improve her business relations with Nigeria and was eager to learn more about Nigeria’s success, especially in banking reforms.
He also said the country was ready to welcome Nigerian investors in all sectors of business.
Guelleh thanked President Goodluck Jonathan for his efforts in improving bilateral and economic relations between Nigeria and Djibouti.
Lolo was accompanied to the presidential palace by his wife Esther; his deputy, Mr. Dabeng Dengwan; and the Deputy Defence Attache at the embassy, Group Captain Kurotimi Obidake.
