Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - Nigeria's Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, has announced that the force will pay for the education of the children of the four police officers who died in a police helicopter crash in the northern city of Jos on Wednesday.
The police boss made the announcement when he paid a condolence visit to the families of the two pilots of the ill-fated chopper, Garuba Yalwa and Alexander Pwol, on Saturday.
“This is the first time that we are having this sort of thing in the Nigeria Police Force. The President is saddened by this event. He sent me to commiserate with you on this very unfortunate incident.
''The loss is not easy to bear. It is a sad moment for me because I knew some of these officers personally. I assure the families that we will take care of them and the children that are left behind. We will take care of their academics and protect them like our own children,” he assured.
The crash also claimed the lives of a Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. Haruna John, and his orderly.
The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) of the Ministry of Aviation has commenced investigation into the crash.
