Don't Bribe Embasy Staff - Tafida

Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Dr. Dalhatu Sarki Tafida has warned those applying for passports and visas against attempts to bribe staff of the embassy for the services.
Speaking yesterday at an award night in honour of the out-going senior officials of the commission and some Nigerians who excelled in their areas of endeavour, the high commissioner stressed that applicants for any services in the commission do not need to bribe any one before they could be served.
“You don’t need to know anyone to get any service. You don’t need to bribe anybody and you don’t have to come through any one to get any service as we have stamped out touting,” he emphasised.
“We are here to serve you. We are your servants, not your masters,” he further stressed, disclosing that the commission would soon open a consular office in the north of England to make it easier for those within and around the north of the country to obtain the embassy’s services.
On the out-going officials, Tafida said they would be really missed because they were the bedrock of the commission’s strength, but noted that since they were going for a higher challenge, they should keep up their good names and performance.
The out-going officials include Ahmed Umar, Akin Oyateru and Bashir Musa, who have been appointed ambassadors, as well as the Deputy High Commissioner, Dozie Nwanna and Sola Enikanolaiye, who have been redeployed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
Earlier in his remarks, Bimbo Folayan, Chairman of the Central Association of Nigerians in the UK (CANUK) which organised the reception, said the event was to celebrate the achievements of Nigerians who excelled in their areas of calling.
